| The Bearded Oysters Give a Shuck! Parading with a Purpose for Muses this Carnival. What: Bearded Oysters Dance Troupe When: 6:30pm, Thursday, February 16th, 2012 Parade: Krewe of Muses Where: Uptown, St. Charles Avenue, Canal Street Website: www.beardedoysters.org Go Green this Carnival with New Orleans’ most shuckingly fabulous Bearded Belles. The Bearded Oysters Dance Troupe is hard at work getting ready for the Krewe of Muses parade. This year, the silly sisterhood will hand paint, glitter, bejewel, decoupage and art-up 3000 oyster shells. Each oyster shell is truly a work of art and a reminder of the necessity to protect all of Louisiana’s Oysters. When not working their merkins, the Bearded Oysters are busy creating the most magical throws available at this year’s parades. These baudy ladies know it doesn’t take a shipment from China to make the crowds scream. Their hand-crafted, “Made in Gina” inspired throws are sure to be the talk of town this year. For seven years, these attention loving ladies have been spicing up an already outrageous Mardi Gras culture with their slick chick tricks. The 500 member club consists of women of all shapes and sizes and colors and ages to best create a network of diverse sisterhood. Behind the hula-hooping, bubble blowing, radical dancing, ribbon twirling, strutting, bead tossing, clowning and street performing is the most unique feminist movement you could ever have the pleasure to witness. Space is still available to women interested in marching this Carnival season. Interested women should contact the Mother Shucker by emailing thebeardedoysters@gmail.com , calling 504-905-2830 or visiting www.beardedoysters.org. |
