We welcome you to join us for this fun filled Carnival parading experience…
We have created this special package to provide the New Orleans Newbie community with the opportunity to experience the joyful and community building experience of parading. If you choose to purchase this package, and later want to become a full member of our krewe, the payment can be applied to a membership later.
Parade details: The Krewe of Mad Hatters takes place in Jefferson Parrish on Veterans Boulevard and surrounding area on Saturday, February 19th at 5pm. This is the most extravagant of parades offered in “Family Gras.”
The “Family Gras” audience is loving and appreciative of your performance and will shower you with adoration and the feeling of being a rock star. The very wide road will provide you with ample space for social distancing as well as an increased feeling of safety in general. This is an easy and fun way to begin your parading journey and will likely lead you to want to join us the following week for Muses on St Charles Avenue in New Orleans.
Costume: Our Krewe colors are white and silver. All of your clothing and accessories should be within this color scheme. You are also welcome to wear nude colored clothing such as tights or body suits. Beards are strongly encouraged. Check out the Costume page for more ideas about what to wear. Sneakers or other comfortable footwear is strongly encouraged as this is a lot of time on your feet.
Dance: Our dance route is very simple and is based on a small amount of moves that you simply follow the leader on. Here is a link to the video to teach you all the moves. The video is under 3 minutes and will prep you to look fabulous. VIDEO
LED Wings: We will have LED wings for you at lineup. We will retrieve them from you at the end of the parade. They come in two sizes based on your height.
Covid: We know you are smart and have heard it all by now. During the parade you will have a lot of personal space–a 9 foot wingspan to be precise. We will have a bathroom that is on a trailer for us, this is a time to take extra precautions, consider wearing your mask and opening the door to air it out for a moment before entering. During lineup and carpooling to the parade is a hot moment for transmission and I encourage you to have a high quality mask, perhaps with a silver sequins one over it.
Cost: The price is $150 which includes your dance wings rental and helps us cover the cost of music, trailer and support staff. This fee is applicable to a full membership if you choose to continue with the krewe.
